Raley's Implements Ecolab Food Safety Program

As food safety and sustainability remain top concerns for grocery retailers, Raley's Family of Fine Stores has advanced efforts on these issues by implementing the Ecolab cleaning and sanitation program – the first North American retailer to do so.

Since incorporating the program at the end of 2014, the West Sacramento, Calif.-based grocer has saved approximately 4 million gallons of water, lowered energy consumption by 7.5 million kWh's, saved 100 tons in shipping, and reduced labor by more than 23,000 hours per year. Raley's aims to complete the rollout chain-wide by the end of April.

Megan Burritt, Raley’s director of wellness and sustainability, said, "Ecolab’s new program is just one of the ways our company is leveraging innovation to help us reduce our overall environmental impact," noting the deployment of additional Ecolab solutions like Whiteout and LmENTARY for water and energy savings, and SolidSense for shipping and waste reductions.

“Ensuring that we provide our customers the cleanest and safest shopping experience possible is critical to what we do at Raley’s,” added Toni Hofer, Raley’s senior manager of food safety, quality assurance, and retail compliance.

Ecolab delivers solutions and on-site service to promote safe food, maintain clean environments, optimize water and energy use and improve operational efficiencies in more than 170 countries around the world.  Raley's operates 118 stores in Northern California and Nevada under the Raley’s Supermarkets, Bel Air Markets, Nob Hill Foods and Food Source banners.
