Publix Taps Epson for Multifunction Printers

LAKELAND, Fla. -As part of a chainwide POS system rollout, Publix Super Markets, Inc. has selected new multifunction printers from Epson, Long Beach, Calif.

The POS system rollout is expected to be completed by the end of 2006.

The new printer selected by Publix is Epson's TM-H6000II, which delivers the ability to read MICR, print, and endorse checks in a single pass, shortening check printing time up to 50 percent over "check flipping" options, according to Epson. This technology speeds up transaction times, creating faster-moving checkout lanes and increasing customer satisfaction.

Using Epson's Connect-It interface options, the TM-H6000II is compatible with proprietary systems as well as PC-based POS solutions, giving supermarket retailers a flexible configuration.

Publix is owned and operated by its 123,500 employees, with 2003 sales of $16.8 billion. Currently Publix operates 826 stores in Florida, Georgia, South Carolina, Alabama, and Tennessee.
