Publix Talks Hurricane Preparedness in Miami

LAKELAND, Fla. -- Regional retailer Publix Super Markets here is joining Miami-Dade County Commission Chairman Joe A. Martinez at one of its Miami locations today for a press conference to discuss sustainability of community and business immediately following a hurricane.

The press conference brings together the largest retail employer in the state of Florida and Miami-Dade County.

During last year's hurricane season, Publix and other Florida retailers were hit with Hurricane Katrina, which first swept the coast as a Category 1 hurricane and then rebounded, and later Hurricane Wilma, a Category 3 storm.

Hurricane Preparedness Week is May 21 through May 27, 2006. The 2006 hurricane season begins June 1 and runs through Nov. 30.
