Publix Reaching Out to Wine Enthusiasts with Magazine

LAKELAND, Fla. -- Publix Super Markets here has begun offering a free quarterly magazine designed to educate shoppers about wine. The publication, called "Publix Grape," is the chain's third magazine; it already publishes the "Family Style" and "GreenWise Market" magazines.

Publix Grape officially hit subscribers' mailboxes in March with a soft launch, but many customers are just now becoming familiar with it, Publix spokeswoman Maria Brous told Progressive Grocer. Customers who live in states where Publix operates and are 21 and older can sign up for a free subscription at www.Publix.com/wine.

"Publix Grape is for wine connoisseurs or people who are just beginning to dabble in wines," said Brous. "The magazine offers a variety of topics, from wine pairing to wines of the month to wine history."

Most of Publix' stores have wine sections, and the typical selection "runs the gamut from everyday price points to more lavish varietals," noted Brous.
