Publix Names Merriann Metz Asst. General Counsel

Merriann Metz has been promoted to the position of assistant general counsel and assistant secretary at Lakeland, Fla.-based Publix Super Markets.

Beginning her career at Publix in 2006 as an attorney in the corporate legal department, Metz rose to the role of senior attorney in 2010 and to her current position of assistant general counsel a year later. Her primary areas of legal expertise are in real estate and regulatory law. Before joining the grocer, she was an attorney with the Lowndes Drosdick law firm, in Orlando, Fla.

“I am very proud that we continue to have talented associates who are ready to assume higher leadership roles within our organization,” noted Publix CEO and President Todd Jones. “Our ability to promote from within is one of the ways we are able to perpetuate our Publix culture.”

Publix operates 1,112 stores in Alabama, Florida, Georgia, North Carolina, South Carolina and Tennessee.
