#7 - Acme Markets to Buy 76 A&P Stores
Will grow footprint both within, outside core geo turf
Published July 21, 2015 - In the immediate wake of A&P's July 19 Chapter 11 filing, Malvern, Pa.-based Acme Markets has tendered a deal to acquire 76 of the beleaguered chain's namesake, Superfresh and Pathmark banners.Acme's offer, subject to customary legal and bankruptcy court approvals, will expand it's footprint both within and outside of its current core eastern Pennsylvania, southern New Jersey and Delaware operating territory to include stores in Connecticut, Maryland and New York. #8 - Target Fires 550 at Corporate
Job cuts follow failure of Canadian expanion
Published Feb. 16, 2015 - Of those 550 employees, about 350 local positions are being eliminated immediately, according to published reports. Most of the remaining employees “are needed through the closure of the Target Canada stores and their positions will be eliminated following the liquidation period,” Target said in a statement.
