Progressive Grocer Research Highlights Independents' Technology Challenges
NEW YORK -- Independent supermarkets may have limited technology resources, but they are making the most of them, according to Progressive Grocer's new report, Executive Insight Series: Technology and the Independent Grocer -- which is being published in the magazine's February 1 issue.
The report features results and in-depth analysis from an exclusive retail survey, on the state of technology for the small-chain independent grocer. The 8-page report provides details on the existing technology they currently use, the IT challenges they face, and the roles they see technology playing for their operations in the future.
The findings show:
• 70 percent of those surveyed name customer service the top business need to be addressed by technology in the next three years.
• POS and back office applications are most crucial to their business operations, while RFID and self-checkout rank lowest.
• 56 percent consider wholesaler recommendations for technology solutions.
