Price Chopper/Market 32 Work to Enhance Job Skills for Disabled

Golub Corp, operator of the Price Chopper and Market 32 banners, has joined forces with Liberty, the Montgomery County, N.Y. chapter of NYSARC Inc., an advocacy organization serving people with disabilities, to enhance job training provided at Liberty Fresh Market.

"Fostering an inclusive work environment has played such a significant role in defining who we are as a company," said Golub VP of HR Operations Mike Miller. "This collaboration with Liberty is very exciting for us because it provides additional credibility to that mission."

Liberty and Golub collaborated on developing employment expectations, best practices and a plan for an employment mentorship program. The training includes retail skills, gaining an understanding of company policy and procedure, learning how to work as part of a team, and effective communication techniques in the workplace.

Already, through the program, two of Liberty Fresh Market's former store clerks, Bethany Cramer and Breauna Theobald, have become store associates at the Amsterdam, N.Y., Price Chopper. Both worked at Liberty Fresh Market for a year while receiving support from Liberty's Pathway to Employment service.

Schenectady, N.Y.-based Golub owns and operates 135 Price Chopper and Market 32 grocery stores in New York, Vermont, Connecticut, Pennsylvania, Massachusetts and New Hampshire. Golub’s 22,000 teammates collectively own more than 47 percent of the company's privately held stock, making it one of the nation’s largest privately held corporations that is predominantly employee-owned.

Liberty Fresh Market has been in operation since August 2014.
