Price Chopper Opens 113th Store
SCHENECTADY, N.Y. -- Price Chopper here is opening a 37,000-square-foot Price Chopper Super Center at the Champlain Shopping Plaza in Champlain, N.Y. The store is the Northeast regional grocer's 113th location.
The grand opening ceremonies are kicking off with a flag raising by the American Legion and the playing of the national anthem by the Northeastern Clinton Central School, immediately followed by a ribbon-cutting ceremony.
According to the Plattsburgh, N.Y. Press-Republican, many of the new store's employees formerly worked at the town's Tops Market, which closed last November. Store manager James Black, however, comes from the Plattsburgh Price Chopper, where he served as co-manager for five years.
On the evening before the opening, president and c.e.o. Neil Golub hosted a fundraising party for three local Champlain nonprofit organization: The Fire & EMS Service, which will use funds for life-saving equipment; The Kiwanis Club of Rouses Point-Champlain, which will use funds toward a number of youth initiatives; and the Northeastern Clinton Central School, which will use funds to upgrade the high school lobby. Also in attendance were Tony and Ernie Pomerleau of Pomerleau Real Estate, developers for the construction project, along with Champlain mayor Jeff Moore, town supervisor Larry Barcomb, and other local officials. The public was asked to make a $5-per-person donation at the door. Children 12 and under were admitted free. Price Chopper said it would match all monies raised up to $1,500. A check presentation from the retailer was made during the party, and a $250 Price Chopper gift certificate was given away to an area resident.
