Price Chopper Helping to Send Girls' Soccer Team to Italy
SCHENECTADY, NY -- Price Chopper here is running a program through some area stores to help raise funds for a girls' soccer team from the Utica, N.Y.-based Coliseum Soccer Club to attend a tournament in Italy this July.
To help realize the girls' dream, the grocer is asking its shoppers to donate back their bottle return slips at the following stores: Genesee St., Utica; No. Utica Shopping Center, North Utica; Commercial Dr., New Hartford; 1790 Black River Blvd., Rome; and 1 Main St., Richfield Springs. The program will run now through May 31st. The slips can be dropped off at the customer service desk.
"This is a wonderful opportunity for these young girls," said Barbara L. Page, manager of community and public relations for Price Chopper, in a statement. "Price Chopper believes in giving back to the communities where our customers live and work, so we will match all monies donated up to $1,000."
The weeklong youth tournament, held annually in the northern Italian town of Cesenatico, near Rimini, is a prestigious multinational event to which only top teams are invited. The Coliseum Juventus Soccer Team will compete in the Under 19 (ages 16 to 19) division.
The family-owned Golub Corp. owns and operates over 115 Price Chopper grocery stores in New York, Vermont, Connecticut, Pennsylvania, Massachusetts, and New Hampshire. Golub's approximately 24,000 associates collectively own 51 percent of the company's privately held stock.
