PMA Names Hannaford's Goulet Secretary/Treasurer
NEWARK, Del. -- Peter Goulet, director of merchandising strategy for Hannaford Bros. Co., is being tapped early to fill the open position of secretary/treasurer at the Produce Marketing Association here.
The association's board of director's post was unexpectedly vacated due to the sudden death of Joe Nucci in early July. Goulet had already been nominated for election to the position in early November, during PMA's upcoming Fresh Summit in Atlanta, Ga.
Janet Erickson, PMA's chairman-elect and board nominating committee chair, called Goulet "An outstanding leader who has always been ready to step up to the plate when we've needed him in the past. He has already served the association in various leadership capacities including chairman of the retail division board, Fresh Summit chairman, as well as on the executive committee."
Erickson, e.v.p. of purchasing and quality assurance for Del Taco Inc., added, "Peter will fill the open position right away and then follow PMA's normal succession into the role of chairman-elect in November. We expect to announce the name of the 2005-06 secretary/treasurer closer to Fresh Summit, probably by early October."
Commenting on his accelerated assumption of the PMA board role, Goulet said: "We are all still in shock over the passing of Joe Nucci. It'll take us a long time to adjust to the void that he left. I'm honored to be asked to step up into the role Joe held with the association, and I know I'll be helped by the other members of the PMA executive committee. Leading PMA really is a team effort."
