The system went live to all Piggly Wiggly HR administrators on Oct. 1, 2008 with the entire employee population expected to go live by the end of this month. HR InTouch is fully integrated with Piggly Wiggly's existing Benefitfocus eEnrollment platform.
"Right now we are using [the system] as a portal to our online enrollment system, but we see huge benefits down the road," said Piggly Wiggly director of human resources Craig Massey. "When we first saw it, all we could think about is where it could take us and how it could help with our training. Communication is really hard when you are in multiple locations. We are now looking to push out training to all of our stores with this tool."
Benefitfocus HR InTouch is a one-stop shop for Human Resources and benefits data. The content management system connects benefits providers, employees, and payroll systems via a single portal. By enabling employers to maintain one system of record in which they can centrally manage all their employee benefits, HR InTouch helps reduce redundant tasks, avoid information duplication, and enhance the level of service to employees.
Among the systems benefits for employees are immediate dollar savings through reductions in the areas of travel, printing, answering phones, and staff time to key data; guaranteed compliance with a ready-built library of HR-compliant content; and increased communication with employees about their health care benefits through the medium of technology.
A further aspect of HR InTouch and Benefitfocus technology that Piggly Wiggly is taking advantage of its Video as a Service (VaaS) capability. Produced by Benefitfocus Media, VaaS provides Piggly Wiggly with a health care communication service to educate and empower employees through easy-to-understand video content. Piggly Wiggly currently features many of these videos, including Spanish versions, on its HRInTouch Web site to help employees understand benefits options and make informed health care decisions.
