PG Reveals 2015 Editors’ Picks Winners

A new slate of standout consumer products have earned coveted designation among Progressive Grocer’s 2015 of Editors’ Picks winners, which were chosen after an arduous review of some 500 individual food and nonfood product entries.

From that broad field of entries, 97 food and 16 nonfood products were selected as this year’s winners, complete details for which can be found in PG’s September 2015 issue.

“Our staff is truly nourished, not only by the food itself, but by the creativity and innovation that went into developing these many fine products,” said Jim Dudlicek, PG’s editor-in-chief.

Some products were honored as full lines, while others were recognized for individual varieties. Products came in from nearly every category, with snack foods most prevalent.

Making Life Easier

“Our favorites among the winners delivered on the idea of providing solutions – making life easier for consumers through simpler preparation, value-added function or other qualities designed to take the hassle out of daily eating or home routine occasions,” Dudlicek said. “And, of course, good taste was a must.”

Examples of solution-oriented products included Batter World’s pancake batters, Certified Angus/Old Neighborhood shaved steak, Daisy’s squeezable sour cream, Gallo’s Vin Vault wines, Hormel meat products, House Foods’ stir fry kits, Truly Good’s salad toppings and Tyson’s seasoned beef strips.

Some combined functional qualities and turn-key nutrition, such as veggie blends from Apio, Fresh Express, Mann Packing and JR Simplot; and ancient grains in Better4U pizzas and Que Pasa tortilla chips. Others addressed specific dietary needs, like Dr. Praeger’s Sunwiches, Enjoy Life’s pizza crust mix, Good2Grow’s Juicy Waters, Pacific Sustainable frozen fish and Paleo Scavenger’s granola.
