Pear Bureau Northwest Slates 3rd Retail Display Contest

Portland, Ore.-based Pear Bureau Northwest unveiled its third annual nationwide display contest, which is open to retailers of all sizes in the U.S. and Canada beginning Jan. 15, 2016.

The “Pear Up with USA Pears” display contest invites retailers to build eye-catching displays of Green Anjou, Red Anjou, and Bosc pears, while including other varieties of USA Pears if desired. To qualify for the contest, the display must be maintained for at least one week during the Jan. 15-March 31, 2016, promotion period.

“For most shoppers, pears are an impulse purchase, so good displays are a key strategy in boosting pear sales,” says Kevin Moffitt, president and CEO of Pear Bureau Northwest. “Retailers of all sizes are rewarded for their creative pear displays in category sales growth and also with over $16,000 in prizes awarded to participants and winners.”

Entrants are asked to submit an entry form and at least one photo of their display by the deadline of April 15, 2016. As recognition for participation, all eligible entrants will receive a $20 gift card. Entries will be judged on a 100-point scale for appearance, creativity and educational impact. Five bonus points will be added to entries that include a second size of pears, either in bags, totes, or bulk. 

Winners will be selected from the following store categories, allowing stores of all sizes to participate and compete for top prizes:

  • 1 - 5 cash registers
  • 6 - 9 cash registers
  • 10 or more cash registers

Thirteen winners from each of three store categories will be awarded as follows:

  • 1st Place: $1,000
  • 2nd Place: $750
  • 3rd Place: $500
  • 10 Honorable Mentions: $150 each

A “Pear Up with USA Pears POS Pack” is available to entrants for use in their displays. It includes several point of sale cards, recipe tear-off pads, and brochures for distribution to shoppers.

Retailers can obtain the free POS materials by calling the Pear Bureau at 503-652-9720, or by filling out an online form at trade.usapears.org/contest. Usage of some or all of the materials in the POS pack is optional for this contest.
