Nye Takes Farm Fresh Helm

Supervalu Inc., parent company of Farm Fresh, has appointed Michelle “Micky” Nye president of the Virginia Beach, Va.-based chain’s 43 stores, according to a published report. Nye’s most recent position was VP of operations for sister Supervalu-owned banner Shoppers Food & Pharmacy, based in Baltimore.

For her achievements over the past year at Shoppers, Nye was named one of Progressive Grocer’s 2013 Top Women in Grocery.

Farm Fresh's fourth president in less than four years, she will take up her new role on Sept. 23 after relocating to the area with her husband, a spokesman at Minneapolis-based Supervalu told The Virginian-Pilot.

Nye, a nearly 40-year veteran of grocery business, with stints at Supervalu’s Shaw’s and Albertsons as well as Pathmark, succeeds Bill Parker, who abruptly departed in early August. Parker, who was at Farm Fresh for 14 years, became acting president of Farm Fresh in 2012 and was officially named to the role in March.

Parker succeeded Gaelo de la Fuente, who was Farm Fresh president for two-and-a-half years following Ron Dennis’ retirement in March 2010. Dennis’ tenure was marked by a dozen years of stability in the chain’s top office.
