The Next Big Apple

New York apple growers have begun picking a new variety, the Zestar! Offering a tarter taste with just a hint of brown sugar, the variety (exclamation point included) will be available in limited supply at select retailers throughout the Empire State, according to the Fishers-based New York Apple Association. With an early blooming season and long storage life, Zestar! is also suitable for cooking. Developed by researchers at the University of Minnesota in 1998, the variety has a hardiness that makes it perfect for growing in colder climates like that of New York.
