New Meijer Stores Utilize Mobile Checkout for Better Service
MARKHAM, Ontario - Meijer is enhancing its customers' shopping experience in three of its new stores with the help of mobile point of sales systems, provided by Markham, Ontario-based PowerCart.
At its new locations in Rossford, Ohio, Rockford, Ill., and Noblesville, Ky., Meijer is utilizing the cart-based system to add, or move, checkout lanes as the need arises, providing even greater guest service during peak times.
PowerCart's battery-equipped mobile carts are used by Canadian supermarket chain Loblaw, as well as such U.S. retailers as Target, Wal-Mart, and Giant Eagle, according to a spokeswoman for the company.
"As more retailers switch to wireless systems, the mobile carts are becoming more popular," she told Progressive Grocer. "The carts can also be used for other applications beyond POS systems. Some stores put printers on the carts and print signage simultaneously as they move around the store." Another of the carts' features that appeal to retailers, the spokeswoman said, is that they're adaptable to any major POS system.
