More IRI Allegations Against VNU Dismissed -- This Time in Europe

HAARLEM, The Netherlands -- Marketing information solutions provider VNU was exonerated after the European Commission closed its investigation into the contracting and pricing practices of its subsidiary, ACNielsen.

An ACNielsen competitor, Information Resources, Inc. (IRI), had complained to the Commission, triggering the investigation last March.

After review of IRI's complaint and conducting its own inquiry, the Commission terminated its investigation, having found no evidence of any wrongdoing.

This is the second time allegations brought on by IRI against VNU have been dropped. In January, a U.S. Federal District Court in New York dismissed IRI's $650 million suit against ACNielsen, although IRI at the time said it would appeal.
