More Hannaford Employees to Receive RedBrick Health Benefits

Independent health services company RedBrick Health has expanded of its pilot program with Hannaford Bros. Co., effective Jan. 1, from 2,400 to 18,000 benefit-eligible associates and dependants. All of these employees will receive RedBrick's full suite of health-and-wellness services, including telephonic, online, and custom coaching programs. RedBrick is additionally providing health plan selection support to all 14,000 Hannaford Bros. associates eligible for the company's health plans this coming year.

The aim of the program, which began as a pilot in June 2008, is to motivate Hannaford associates to change unhealthy individual behaviors and reward them for doing so.

RedBrick's fully integrated set of services enables Hannaford associates to understand their own current level of health via robust assessment and screening tools, use those results to create a Personal HealthMap that helps them engage in customized health programs, earn financial rewards for their participation in such programs, and learn more about the health care systems, including the selection of a health plan, through independent advocacy.

"We are dedicated to ensuring that our associates have the support and tools needed to live healthy lifestyles," said Peter Hayes, Hannaford director of associate health and wellness. "The successful implementation of the pilot program, along with the enthusiasm seen among our staff, moved us to expand ahead of schedule."

Based on the success of this rollout, Hannaford will consider further expansion opportunities, including offering RedBrick services to their remaining 18,000 associates not currently enrolled in a health plan offered by the grocer.

"Hannaford is ranked among the best employers nationally for supporting healthy lifestyles among its associates," added Kyle Rolfing, c.e.o. of Minneapolis-based RedBrick. "The company is now taking that commitment to the next level."

In other health news, Hannaford last month introduced a community-based pharmacy benefits plan for employers in Maine, New Hampshire, Vermont, Massachusetts, and New York, in partnership with Greenwood Village, Colo.-based health care management solutions company HealthTrans.

Employing over 27,000 associates, Scarborough, Maine-based Hannaford, a division of Brussels-owned Delhaize Group, operates 167 stores in Maine, New York, Massachusetts, New Hampshire, and Vermont.
