Meijer’s Digital Coupon Program Tops 1M Subscribers

Meijer’s free digital coupon program, mPerks, hit 1 million subscribers after a record-setting December that generated 101,000 new subscribers, 13.7 million clipped offers, and more than $5 million in savings issued to customers.

"Meijer is always looking for ways to save our customers money, and the mPerks program is doing just that in an extremely convenient way," said Michael Ross , vice president of customer marketing and loyalty. "It's great to see so many of our customers take advantage of this money-saving program."

The Grand Rapids, Mich.-based retailer launched mPerks in 2010 as a way to help customers save money at the register by offering a faster – and more convenient – way to clip coupons. The free online program keeps deal seekers from having to cut, print or present a coupon upon checkout.

The digital coupon program has a redemption rate up to four times higher than the national average. In December alone, Meijer customers redeemed nearly 2 million offers.

The mPerks program will begin offering personalized rewards later this winter, which will give subscribers monetary reward coupons based on their spending throughout Meijer’s 199 supercenters and grocery stores. The program is also scheduled to undergo a new Web design, making it even easier for customers to navigate and search for coupons to clip.

Once customers sign up, they can preview and select coupons for their favorite national or Meijer brand products that are then stored in their personal mPerks account until redeemed or expired. The applicable coupons are then instantly redeemed when shoppers enter in their mobile phone number, which serves as the mPerks account number, at checkout.
