Meijer Teams with Midwest Re-manufacturer for Ink Cartridge Refill Service

GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. - Meijer Inc here has teamed with IQcartridge, a Midwest re-manufacturer of ink and printer cartridges, to offer a convenient and cost-effective way for consumers to recycle and refill their ink and printer cartridges, while helping them save money and contribute to the green momentum in earth conservation.

Meijer has installed ink cartridge refill stations in their photo and electronics departments for consumers to drop off cartridges in envelopes and pick up the next day.

"We want to remanufacture as many cartridges as we possibly can," said Kristen Kavanagh, IQcartridge president. "The best way to do that is to make it convenient for consumers to return their cartridges and offer them quick turn-around. As Meijer saw a decline in photo processing due to the advent of digital cameras," Kavanagh added, "we realized an opportunity to provide a similar drop-off and pick-up service for ink cartridges."

Approximately 1 billion printer cartridges are manufactured every year, most designed as single-use disposable products. The average U.S. household has 1.2 computers; home office and educational use and at-home photo printing have tripled home printer usage in the past 2 years. Recycling of ink cartridges not only reduces the burden of landfills, but also realizes significant cost savings to the consumer with the benefit of extra ink capacity in each cartridge.

IQcartridge is the exclusive service provider for over 200 Meijer stores, independent grocers, college bookstores and computer centers.
