Meijer Set to Open 20+ Basic Care Clinics

GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. - Meijer here will bow over 20 state-of-the-art walk-in clinics later this month in select store locations across Indiana and Michigan.

Meijer's partner in the project, Affordable Basic Care - which operates the clinics that will treat non-urgent medical needs without an appointment - said it has selected Southfield, Mich.-based CareClinic, a national provider of home care, staffing services, and home care-related equipment, to operate and staff the clinics with specially trained nurse practitioners and physicians' assistants. Metro Health will provide medical direction to effectively coordinate patient care with local physicians.

"Meijer cares about the communities they serve and wants their customers to be proud to have them as a neighbor," said Meijer spokeswoman Stacie Behler. "Meijer will be able to provide convenient health care options to many communities in Indiana and Michigan. These clinics will improve access to affordable care and reduce the time burden and financial impact on patients."

Located inside the stores, the first three new clinics will open in Meijer stores at 6309 Lima Road and 5909 Illinois Rd., Fort Wayne, Ind. and 2507 Chester Blvd., Richmond, Ind. Nineteen additional Affordable Basic Care clinics operated by CareClinic, Inc. will also open in Meijer stores in Michigan and Indiana. CareClinic, Inc. is also taking over operations of the three existing Affordable Basic Care Clinics that opened in Meijer's hometown last spring.

Meijer operates 176 stores in Michigan, Ohio, Indiana, Illinois and Kentucky.
