Meijer Said Rolling Out Gas Price Mobile Messaging Program In South Bend
GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. -- After a successful test pilot in Indianapolis of a text-messaging program that offers consumers advance warning when its gasoline prices are going to rise, Meijer, Inc. here has reportedly rolled the same program out in South Bend, Ind.
By registering their cell number into the Meijer Gas Alert program, customers can receive text messages from the chain that will notify them three hours in advance when Meijer gas prices are going to increase by a nickel or more.
The program is expected to be offered in all of Meijer's markets in five states by next month, according to local news reports.
The Meijer program was recently honored with a top prize for the Best Use of Mobile Marketing, Relationship-Building by the Mobile Marketing Association (MMA).
Meijer operates 176 supercenters, featuring over 40 departments, throughout Illinois, Indiana, Kentucky, Michigan, and Ohio. The family-held chain was named as Progressive Grocer's 2006 Retailer of the Year.
