Meijer to Open Walk-in Health Care Clinics in Nine Indiana Units
GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. -- Meijer, Inc. here said it will open health clinics in nine of its Indiana stores. The walk-in clinics will provide routine medical services, such as treatments for minor injuries and maladies, and will offer preventive services, including vaccines and health screenings.
Two health care groups will run the clinics for Meijer and provide medical oversight for the operations. Nurse practitioners from Arcadia Resources, Inc. will staff the facilities, while the 570-member Physicians' Organization of Western Michigan (POWM) will guide clinic operations.
Offering health care in a nontraditional but more convenient setting reflects a growing national trend, and one that Meijer is already engaged in at some of its Michigan locations, said company officials.
"Meijer has always been a trailblazer in developing new and innovative concepts that provide convenience, quality, and value for our customers," said Stacie Behler, Meijer's v.p. of corporate communications and public affairs.
Said John Elliott, Arcadia Resources' chairman and c.e.o.: "The Arcadia-POWM alliance empowers us to serve yet-untapped regional markets, and work with retailers like Meijer. Meijer has significant brand equity and consumer loyalty, which can help drive traffic to our clinics, while we provide convenient and quality health care services for Meijer customers."
Added David Silliven, executive director of POWM: "Meijer is the originator of the one-stop retail supercenter concept. We believe our health care clinics are ideally suited for placement inside this highly trafficked, consumer-centered store."
Since the clinics are located inside Meijer stores, prescriptions will also be able to be filled on-site at the Meijer Pharmacy, the partners said.
Meijer has 175 stores in Michigan, Ohio, Indiana, Illinois, and Kentucky.
