Meijer to Host Healthy Field Trips for Kids
GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. -- Meijer, based here, has contracted with Chicago-based Field Trip Factory Inc. to provide hundreds of field trips to grade-schoolers to learn about healthy eating and nutrition.
Meijer is embracing the kid-focused store tours, not only as a way to address the childhood obesity epidemic, but also as a way to invest in the future with children who live nearby and may shop at their stores for dozens of years to come.
Meijer marketing s.v.p. Jeff Handler has worked with Field Trip Factory c.e.o. Susan Singer to sign up field trips in supermarket chain's stores in Algonquin, Aurora, Bolingbrook, Elgin, McHenry, Rolling Meadows, St. Charles and Merrillville, Indiana.
Field Trip Factory, with sales over $2 million per year, develops curriculums that meet national learning standards and are being used by major retailers across the nation. The company has signed up 3,000 stores in 49 states and will deliver approximately 35,000 field trips in 2006.
The family-owned Meijer chain operates 171 grocery and general merchandise supercenters throughout Illinois, Indiana, Kentucky, Michigan, and Ohio.
In other news, Meijer and Coca-Cola Enterprises signed on for a season-long partnership with Rahal Letterman Racing (RLR) as associate sponsors of driver Danica Patrick for the 2006 Indy Racing League (IRL) IndyCar Series.
Meijer and Coca-Cola have teamed together in the past to sponsor an entry in the Indianapolis 500. This season, the sponsors have expanded their efforts to a full-season program with Rahal Letterman Racing, one of the leading open-wheel race teams in North America.
Meijer and Coca-Cola logos will appear on the car of 2005 IRL IndyCar Series and Indy 500 Rookie of the Year Danica Patrick. The Meijer logo will be displayed on 2004 Indianapolis 500 winner Buddy Rice's car as well. As part of the program, Fans will get a chance to meet Patrick during autograph sessions at select Meijer stores around IRL events in each Meijer market.
