Meijer Gives Grand Rapids Urban Store Special Branding
Meijer has plans to open a smaller urban-format store in downtown Grand Rapids, Mich., under a different moniker: Bridge Street Market.
The name is a nod to its neighborhood location and unique format, the first of its kind in the region and a model intended to deliver a convenient, fresh neighborhood grocery options for locals. The store, intended to serve as a model for “future neighborhood-friendly development in the area,” will focus on accessible fresh produce and full grocery offerings for the community.
The Grand Rapids-based retailer will begin construction on the Bridge Street Market June 26, finally opening its doors in early fall of next year. The store will anchor a development spanning a city block amid Grand Rapids’ current hub of collaboration and mixed-use development, and reside alongside apartments, a parking deck and an office and retail building. The mixed-use project began with the deconstruction in May of the original buildings on the site, clearing the way for future development.
