Meijer Adds Four More Skechers Concept Shops

Six months after debuting its first Sketchers concept shop inside its Knapp's Corner store, Meijer is rolling out the store-within-a-store shoe department in four more locations this fall, including Greenwood, Ind., Midland, Mich., Marysville, Ohio and Grafton, Wis.

"We are always striving to provide our customers with the great items they are looking for at affordable prices," said Peter Whitsett, EVP of merchandising and marketing for Meijer. "Our Sketchers concept shops strengthen our commitment to customers and gives families a convenient place to shop for shoes together."

After offering the popular shoe brand for more than a decade as one of the largest Sketchers retailer partners across the Midwest, the 804-square-foot concept shop began as a pilot project to enhance the shoe-buying experience.

The Sketchers shops feature four video screens to present product information and lifestyle news, including celebrity endorsements.

Meijer will host grand-opening celebrations featuring giveaways and shoe experts to introduce the Sketcher shoe shops.

Recently named as Progressive Grocer's 2015 Retailer of the Year, Meijer operates 222 supercenters and grocery stores throughout Michigan, Ohio, Indiana, Illinois, Kentucky and Wisconsin.
