McDonald's Fourth-Quarter Sales Soar
OAK BROOK, Ill. - McDonald's Corp. here said today its U.S. sales soared for the ninth straight month in December, but that fourth-quarter profit will be impacted because it's curtailing its Boston Market and Donato's chains.
U.S. December sales growth was 12.2 percent for stores open more than a year, and was the fourth consecutive double-digit monthly increase. It exceeded analysts' expectations for high single-digit percentage gains.
The sales increase was helped by the introduction of all-white-meat Chicken McNuggets and came despite the much-publicized first incidence of mad cow disease in the United States.
