McCaffrey’s Taps BrightFarms For On-location Produce Greenhouse
McCaffrey’s Markets will soon house a BrightFarms greenhouse at one its three store locations. By growing the produce directly on location, McCaffrey’s will offer customers fresh, tasty and environmentally sustainable produce.
BrightFarms will finance, build and operate the greenhouse, which will grow the ultra local produce for the privately owned, Langhorne Pa.-based independent, whose three stores are in Princeton and West Windsor, N.J. and in Yardley Pa. McCaffreys will purchase the produce from the greenhouse – items such as lettuces, tomatoes and herbs – as per a long-term produce purchase agreement.
Jim McCaffrey, owner and CEO of his namesake stores, said, “We are really excited to be working with BrightFarms. Not only will the greenhouse allow us to continue providing to our customers the freshest and highest quality produce, but it also fits right into our company philosophy to make as small an impact on the environment as possible,” McCaffrey added.
“McCaffrey’s has built its grocery business by knowing their customers better than anyone else,” noted Paul Lightfoot, BrightFarms CEO, noting the strong demand ‘for locally grown, healthy and sustainable produce.”
BrightFarms designs, finances, builds and operates hydroponic greenhouse farms, at or near, grocery retailers.
