Lunardi’s Market Deploys Scalable, Centralized Back-office System

Community-based independent Lunardi’s Market yesterday went live with a new centralized back-office host system for analyzing sales movement while controlling price and cost information from one central database.

The San Francisco-based grocer is using BRData’s Retail BOSS Host, a multi-user graphical system built on Microsoft Windows technology, which provides retailers and wholesalers with the tools for item and category management.

“We were operational and hosting the stores right away,” said Theresa Jordan, POS supervisor for Lunardi’s. “After that, it’s been just a matter of working out a few issues, which took a number of months to get just right.”

Jordan attributes much of the smooth migration to Melville, N.Y.-based BRdata’s approach and expertise, advanced preparation and regular communication with Lunardi’s associates. “We’d have conference calls with BRdata on a weekly basis to review any outstanding issues,” she said.

What particularly attracted Jordan to the system was its reporting features. “It’s quick and user-friendly, with no serious learning curve,” she pointed out. “When our buyers are here, they find it very easy to obtain their movement reports. We used to have to do it screen-by-screen, and were unable to do a group for specified dates as opposed to quarterly or yearly, so there was a lot of wasted effort. Today, the buyers themselves are able to get the information they need, where formerly, it involved so many steps that I had to run it for them. That saves me a lot of time.”

Plus, the BOSS system has additional functionality that the retailer plans to use in the future. “BRdata has many capabilities we aren’t using now, but which we may want to use down the road — things that could make our jobs easier,” said Jordan. “I can see us having it for a long time.”
