Light Versifier and Former PG Contributor Dies

RIDGEWOOD, N.J. -- Maureen Cannon, a noted and prolific crafter of often humorous poetry about the ups and downs of modern life, with work appearing over the course of her career in such publications as Good Housekeeping, Ladies' Home Journal, Reader's Digest, National Review, and Progressive Grocer, has died at her home here, according to a published report. She was 84 years old.

Cannon, who, from the mid-1960s on, published over 1,000 poems, also regularly sent verses to the Metropolitan Diary column of The New York Times and to Jersey Diary, in the Times' New Jersey Weekly section, according to an obituary in that newspaper.

A widow since 1977, Cannon is survived by two daughters and six grandchildren.
