Lifestyle Titles Lead in Q2 Magazine Launches
NEW YORK -- Lifestyle magazines made up half of the 42 consumer magazines launched in the second quarter of this year, a 31 percent increase over the same time period last year, according to research conducted by Magazine Publishers of America (MPA).
In addition to lifestyle publications, launches included 15 magazines for women, 10 titles for the affluent sector, six magazines dedicated to sports and recreation, and three new titles targeting African Americans.
Titles ran the gamut from local niche magazines such as Atlanta Peach, Denver Woman, and Sacramento Life & Style; to dancehall music culture magazine Wicked Act; to Massive Online Gamer, which covers the increasingly popular online gaming
The MPA represents more than 240 domestic publishing companies with approximately 1,400 titles, more than 80 international companies, and more than 100 associate members.
