Lidl US Breaks Ground on N.C. HQ, DC

Lidl marked the Dec. 11 groundbreaking of its new regional distribution center in Alamance County, N.C., with a ceremony attended by local elected officials, business and community leaders, and Lidl US executives. The facility, which is expected to open by 2018, will create about 200 jobs in the state. All told, Lidl plans to invest more than $125 million in the project.

“Not only is Alamance County centrally located, it is home to an exceptionally talented workforce,” said Brendan Proctor, president and CEO of Lidl US. “We look forward to being part of this community and introducing residents to a superior shopping experience.”

“Lidl is one of the most recent European companies to join North Carolina’s business community, and we are eager to support its success as it begins serving southeastern U.S. markets from its new state-of-the-art facility in Mebane,” noted North Carolina Gov. Pat McCrory.

The company first revealed its North Carolina plans last July. In October, Lidl US broke ground on another regional headquarters/distribution center, in Spotsylvania County, Va. The U.S. corporate headquarters will be in Arlington County, Va.

Neckarsulm, Germany-based Lidl operates almost 10,000 stores in 26 countries across Europe.
