Kroger Offers Meningitis Vaccines In Ohio, Michigan

CINCINNATI -- Stores throughout Ohio and Michigan operated by The Kroger Co. based here are offering Menactra, a meningococcal vaccination, to graduating high school seniors, in an effort to prepare their immune systems for college.

The vaccine is available in the pharmacy at many local area locations now through July 15. In Michigan, the vaccine will be offered through the rest of the summer or until the supply is exhausted, said Kroger in a news release.

The vaccination clinics are being held in cooperation with the Visiting Nurses Association and Interim HealthCare.

Menactra -- a vaccine indicated for the prevention of infection from the most common strains of meningitis-causing bacteria -- is administered as a single shot in the shoulder. Although Meningitis is a rare but serious disease, people between the ages of 15 and 24 who are in constant close contact with others are most susceptible to infection, said Kroger.
