Kroger Announces Contract Proposals for Houston Workers
CINCINNATI - Kroger Co. on Thursday said it was offering wage increases and improved health care plans for nearly 11,000 of its workers across the Houston area, Reuters reports. The proposals are yet to be ratified by the United Food and Commercial Workers Union (UFCW).
If ratified, the proposals would replace contracts between Kroger and the UFCW that expire at midnight Saturday, April 3, a company statement said.
Kroger, one of the chains involved in the recent Southern California labor dispute, did not disclose the details or financial terms of its proposals to UFCW members but said it was making every effort to "communicate the facts of the proposed offer to them."
The Houston area falls under Kroger's Southwest division, which operates 220 stores in Texas and Louisiana.
