Kings Food Markets Renews ‘Just Picked Promise’

Kings Food Markets will bring back its exclusive 24 Hour Just Picked Promise, starting Friday, May 22. This is the annual program's fourth year, a company spokeswoman told Progressive Grocer.

The seasonal initiative, developed in partnership with Plainville, Mass.-based nonprofit Red Tomato, provides locally grown fresh fruits, vegetables and herbs within a day of having been handpicked. Kings collaborates with a network of 25-plus farmers in the region to supply the produce through an expedited distribution process.

"Each summer, we look forward to bringing the Just Picked Promise Program to our customers," noted Judy Spires, president and CEO of Parsippany, N.J.-based Kings Food Markets. "This exclusive program allows us to deliver the freshest produce available from our shoppers' local community. As soon as customers see the Just Picked Promise seal, they know they are purchasing high quality products just like what they find at their local produce stand."

"Freshness equals time," added Kings VP of Produce, Meat, Seafood and Floral Paul Kneeland. "Our growers are committed to bringing the freshest, highest-quality local produce to our stores every delivery."

Produce available at each Kings location will vary daily, although shoppers can expect such seasonal staples as arugula, basil, cilantro, lettuce, squash, mint, blueberries, cucumbers, kale and tomatoes. The program will run through Labor Day at all 25 Kings stores in New Jersey, New York and Connecticut.
