Kings Exec Named Prez of N.J. Bakers Board of Trade
Ken Downey, director of bakery sales and merchandising at Kings Super Markets, was elected president of New Jersey Bakers Board of Trade (NJBBT) at the industry group's annual board of directors meeting, which was held before The American Bakery Exposition.
Downey's election marks the first time a supermarket retailer has ever held the highest position in the NJBBT, which was founded over 90 years ago and is dedicated to the promotion of the baking industry in the state. Members comprise bakers and managers of retail and wholesale bakeries and bagel shops; educators, commercial pastry chefs, and baking and pastry arts students, in addition to members of allied trades.
Downey joined Parsippany, N.J.-based Kings in 2004, and has more than 25 years of experience in bakery and deli retail, wholesale, and production. He is a member of the Retail Bakers of America board of directors, and v.p. of the Eastern Perishable Products Association.
