Judge OKs Winn-Dixie Store Sales
JACKSONVILLE, Fla. -- Winn-Dixie Stores, Inc., was given approval late last week by a judge to sell 17 stores in Florida, 12 in the Bahamas, and a warehouse. The sales will bring in about $118 million for the chain, which is in bankruptcy.
After holding an auction, Winn-Dixie was able to get a $54 million bid by BSL Holdings for its 12 stores in the Bahamas, according to an Associated Press report. That was $4 million more than what was originally bid by BK Foods Ltd.
Associated Grocers of Florida increased its bid for a distribution center in Pompano Beach from $39.3 million to $51 million.
Upon completion of the deal, Winn-Dixie will operate 538 stores in Florida, Alabama, Georgia, Mississippi, and Louisiana, including 10 that remain closed as a result of Hurricane Katrina.
