Instacart Launches in San Diego
Instacart has expanded into San Diego, its fifth California market, allowing residents to order from such retailers as Whole Foods Market, Costco (no membership required), Jimbo’s…Naturally, Ralphs, and Smart and Final, and have groceries delivered in as little as one hour.
Over the past year, Instacart has seen triple-digit growth in Southern California. Its latest expansion into San Diego will serve approximately 365,000 more residents.
“Southern California has always been a key market for us, and we’ve had tremendous success in Los Angeles and Orange County,” said Sean Twersky, San Diego general manager for Instacart. “The consumer demand to bring Instacart to San Diego has been extremely high, and we are excited to be working with incredible retail partners to bring grocery delivery to over 160,000 new households in San Diego.”
Austin, Texas-based Whole Foods will offer delivery in San Diego via Instacart at prices that are the same as shoppers find in stores.
“Our customers love the convenience of ordering Whole Foods Market groceries online and having them delivered right to their doors, so we’re excited to bring this service to San Diego residents with Instacart,” said Jeff Jenkins, Whole Foods Market’s global executive coordinator of digital strategy. “Instacart has given us a way to provide customers with the highest-quality fresh and healthy groceries, even when they can’t make it into our stores.”
Added Jim “Jimbo” Someck, owner of area retailer Jimbo’s…Naturally!: “As a full-service natural foods grocery store, we work hard to bring the highest-quality fresh, local and organic produce to our customers in San Diego. In partnering with Instacart, we are excited to provide a convenient way for not just our existing customers to receive these high-quality organic and natural foods, but to expand our base to reach additional households with the convenience of grocery delivery.”
Instacart's initial delivery area in San Diego encompasses the following ZIP codes: 92101, 92102, 92103, 92104, 92105, 92108, 92110, 92115, and 92116. It will serve residents in the Marina, East Village, Little Italy, Old Town, Mission Valley, Mission Hills, North Park, South Park, Kensington, College East, and College West neighborhoods.
In honor of the launch, Instacart will be at the Padres versus. Brewers game at Petco Park on Aug. 1. Baseball fans can stop by the Instacart booth at Park at the Park to learn more about the delivery service.
