Inserra Supermarkets Clears Latest Legal Hurdle for New ShopRite

Inserra Supermarkets received approval from the Bergen County Superior Court’s Appellate Division’s to build a new ShopRite, Wyckoff, N.J. The decision, issued Aug. 18, unanimously affirmed lower court rulings and dismissed the final three counts in a 14-count objection filed by Stop & Shop.

The Inserra family, which owns 22 ShopRites in New Jersey and New York, is targeting December 2017 for the opening of  the 62,000-square-foot store.

The newest store in Wyckoff, N.J., received approval of the Township of Wyckoff’s Planning Board in February 2013 following 38 public meetings over a three-year period. Ongoing litigation from Stop & Shop has stalled construction and groundbreaking at the proposed site. Stop & Shop’s appeals of the approvals by the Bergen County Planning Board are still pending.

The proposed store’s building design reflects the historic character and architecture of the surrounding buildings. An acre of new landscaping will significantly enhance the site and exceed the township’s green space requirements.
