Welcome to our first edition of the Independent Grocer e-newsletter, created specifically for independent grocers and the wholesalers that serve them!

Every month, this newsletter will deliver to you a wrap-up of independent grocer news from Progressive Grocer Online, as well as fresh content from PG’s Independent Grocer Network (IGN) – much of it generated from independent grocers themselves.

Here’s an overview of the various components of the Independent Grocer e-newsletter, as it is unique among all of PG’s e-newsletters in its cross-platyform approach:

Best of the Blogs: This section will feature a blog posted by a member of the Independent Grocer Network. In this edition, we feature a blog about social media from Canadian independent Neil Kudrinko of Kudrinko’s Markets.

Featured Forum: This section will highlight a forum discussion topic from IGN. To add to the discussion, just click the link below the discussion question.

Multimedia Mash-Up: In this section, we will highlight multimedia posted by members of IGN. This edition’s mash-up features a photo gallery of more than 50 images that complement the cover story from the May 2011 PG Independent print supplement. The story covered how E.W. James & Sons Supermarkets reacted to the challenge posed to it when its Troy, Tenn. store burned to the ground just one month after opening. The photos will take you from the original store opening, through the fire, to the makeshift store it operated while a new Troy store was being built, and finally, to the opening of the new Troy store.
