IGA Begins 5th Annual Wounded Warrior Campaign
IGA and the Wounded Warrior Project are kicking of the fifth annual IGA Exclusive Brand donation initiative. At the end of this year’s drive, IGA’s goal is to donate $250,000 to the WWP, and push its overall contribution past $1 million. To date, IGA retailers have donated more than $970,000 to WWP.
During the campaign, which runs from Memorial Day (May 25) to Labor Day (Sept. 7), a number of WWP co-branded IGA Exclusive Brand products will be sold at participating IGA stores. This year, IGA will donate 10 cents for every case of specially marked WWP-branded IGA spring or drinking water purchased; 5 cents for every carton of WWP-branded IGA ice cream sold; and 2 cents for every pack of WWP-branded IGA hamburger and hotdog buns.
Retailers also are encouraged to raise additional funds through community events and in-store campaigns. This year, they also can sell WWP-branded IGA reusable tote bags, with a $1 donation made for every bag purchased. Consumers also can add to the fund by donating to the WWP microsite on www.iga.com.
Promotional materials are available to retailers to build awareness of their participation in the campaign, and the materials feature injured service members who have been helped by WWP and its programs.
“The Wounded Warrior Project event has really shown us what IGA retailers can do when they have a great cause and a great line of products behind them,” Dave Bennett, IGA SVP, Procurement & Exclusive Brands, says. “IGA retailers rallied their communities around the cause, hosting fundraisers, parking lot events, BBQs and pinup programs. We didn’t ask these retailers to jump in with both feet and do more; they did it all on their own.”
