Hy-Vee Offers Free Breakfast to Veterans<br />

Hy-Vee honored America's vets on Veterans Day with a free breakfast in appreciation of their service to the country.

"The breakfast is a time of fellowship, sharing and remembering those who served and continue to serve," said Jon Wendel, the West Des Moines, Iowa chain's v.p. of marketing. "We hope this small token of appreciation will convey our deep appreciation for the sacrifices the men and women of our armed forces make to defend our freedom."

All Hy-Vee supermarkets with in-store dining services participated in the event, which featured a complimentary buffet for veterans and others at a small cost. The chain -- which gave the vets a free red, white or blue carnation -- also encouraged community members at large to stop by and express their gratitude to their local veterans.

The employee-owned Hy-Vee, Inc. operates 224 retail stores in seven Midwestern states.
