HEB to Permanently Shutter Galveston Island Store

As reported last week by Progressive Grocer, HEB has been battling back after Hurricane Ike struck the Houston/Galveston area. After checking its store on storm-struck Galveston Island, however, the grocer has decided to shutter its unit on the island, at 6013 Stewart Road, because the hurricane caused too much damage to the structure.

"Unfortunately, the store suffered extensive water damage," said Cyndy Garza-Roberts, director for public affairs, HEB-Houston. The company said it is offering Galveston employees the opportunity to transfer to other HEB store locations in the Houston region. The Galveston HEB had opened in 1990.
