Harris Teeter Repeats Acetaminophen Recall after Pills Still Found on Shelves
CHARLOTTE, N.C. - Regional chain Harris Teeter here, owned by Ruddick Corp., issued a second recall of acetaminophen produced by Perrigo Co. earlier this week, after the grocer discovered that the initial recall was not carried out in all its stores.
In a statement, Harris Teeter said the company is embarrassed that the recall was not fully conducted, and that it is reviewing its recall procedures.
Perrigo Co. issued the initial voluntary recall of acetaminophen on Nov. 9, after tests found revealed small metal fragments in some 500 milligram caplets. Subsequently, Harris Teeter Quality Assurance was informed and initiated a voluntary company-wide recall of the possible affected items. But since that time, Harris Teeter said, it learned that not all of the products were removed from shelves.
Harris Teeter said it has received 100 percent compliance from its stores for the second recall. The retailer said it is posting signs in HBC departments to make shoppers aware of the situation.
