Harris Teeter Planning Downtown Raleigh Store
Harris Teeter reportedly is answering the call for a full-service grocery store in the downtown district of North Carolina’s capital city.
The stalwart southeastern chain, owned by Cincinnati-based Kroger, has inked an agreement to open a supermarket and pharmacy in the Shops at Seaboard Station development in downtown Raleigh, the Triangle Business Journal reported. Construction is expected to begin in late 2017 or early 2018.
Kroger did not immediately respond to a request for comment on the project being undertaken by its Mathews, N.C.-based subsidiary.
Full-service supermarket
The new location is expected to be a single-level 55,000-square-foot store, TBJ reported. Currently, the closest grocery store for residents of downtown Raleigh is Harris Teeter’s 70,000-square-foot Cameron Village store.
The Seaboard Station store is expected to offer both surface and structured parking, online ordering and pick-up services, a full-service pharmacy, outdoor seating and fresh prepared foods.
TBJ further reported that Publix Supermarkets may be in talks to open a store in downtown Raleigh as part of a nearby mixed-use development. Lakeland, Fla.-based Publix did not immediately respond to PG’s inquiry about this project.
