Harris Teeter Parent Names Current C.E.O. Dickson Chairman
CHARLOTTE, N.C. -- The board of Ruddick Corporation, parent company of the Harris Teeter chain here, said Friday it elected Thomas "Tad" W. Dickson its new chairman, replacing co-founder Alan T. Dickson, who retired along with co-founder R. Stuart Dickson, who stepped down as chairman of the executive committee.
Tad Dickson will continue to serve as the company's president and c.e.o., and the elder Dicksons will each continue to serve as members of the board.
"As founders of the company, Alan and Stuart Dickson were instrumental in building Ruddick into the great company it is today," said Edwin B. Borden, Ruddick's independent lead director.
"Tad is well qualified to assume the additional role as chairman of the board," Borden added. Tad Dickson joined Ruddick thread and yarn manufacturing subsidiary, American & Efird, Inc., in 1980, was named president and principal executive officer of Ruddick in 1997, and c.e.o. in 2002.
Ruddick Corporation's subsidiary Harris Teeter, Inc., operates upscale supermarkets in six southeastern states.
