Harris Teeter Eyes B-W Growth With New Real Estate Broker
Ahead of its expansion into northern Virginia; Washington, D.C.; and Maryland, Harris Teeter has retained Next Realty Mid-Atlantic as its exclusive broker in the region.
“Our goal is to help Harris Teeter find the best opportunities for high-volume stores in the Washington-Baltimore region,” said George Galloway, Next’s managing principal, who will be the lead contact for the account, supported by team members Andrew Rose, Andrew Tkach, Mellisa Peterson and Kelsey Beerman. “Our focus on expanding the grocer’s presence with high-profile sites is a continuation of the foundation established by Cary Judd.”
Judd, who recently passed away, represented Harris Teeter on its entrance and early growth in the District of Columbia, Maryland and Virginia, helping the chain to establish a solid foothold there.
Matthews, N.C.-based Harris Teeter, which currently has 44 stores open, one under construction and two in the planning stages, is continuing to look for appropriate locations in the area to expand its banner.
A wholly owned subsidiary of The Kroger Co. in Cincinnati, Harris Teeter operates more than 230 stores and five fuel centers in seven states and the District of Columbia. In addition to its retail stores, Harris Teeter owns grocery, frozen food and perishable distribution centers in Greensboro, N.C., and Indian Trail, N.C., as well as a dairy in High Point, N.C.
