Hannaford¿s Selling Disposable DVDs

SCARBOROUGH, Me. – Hannaford Bros. Co. yesterday began selling its first movie title on Flexplay DVDs, the disposable DVDs produced by media and entertainment holding company The Convex Group in Atlanta, Ga.

The movie, NOEL, which stars Penelope Cruz, Paul Walker, Susan Sarandon, and Alan Arkin, will be available at a rental price point, but with the convenience of no returns.

Here’s how it works: Unopened Flexplay discs stay "fresh" in the package for approximately one year. The 48 hours of viewing time begins when the sealed inner package is opened. The DVD can be viewed on any standard DVD player as often as desired during the 48-hour time period. After 48 hours, the DVD expires and becomes unreadable.
