Hannaford Eliminating HQ Jobs

Hannaford Bros. is asking for voluntary resignations at its 750-employee corporate offices in Scarborough, Maine.

"We realize that some jobs will be eliminated," said company spokesman Michael Norton in an interview with Progressive Grocer, adding that the reason for the requested resignations was to "reduce the cost structure" of the grocer's headquarters.

He added that Hannaford was also holding certain jobs vacant, and that as its HQ underwent restructuring, people would likely be hired or transitioned into those open positions, depending on what was the best fit for Hannaford.

Norton declined to comment on how many jobs will be affected. The company will provide severance pay for the departing employees, based on tenure.
